The National Police have intercepted a British tourist at the Tenerife South Airport, trying to fly to the UK despite having tested positive for coronavirus. The teenager, who was on holiday in Tenerife with his father and grandfather, had escaped through the window of a health centre when he had a pre-departure antigen test that came back positive, to try and get home without declaring one.
These facts were communicated to the AENA security department at Reina Sofia airport, and once the National Police had been informed, they closed airport doors so that no-one could get in or out, whilst they located the man in question, who had been bought a new plane ticket by his father to get off the island.
Agents belonging to the Airport Border Post and officers from the South Tenerife National Police Station collaborated in locating the man, who was found in departures waiting to board a plane to the UK.
Once located he was isolated with his father and grandfather because he is infected with Covid-19, and has been informed officially of his obligation to immediately start a 10-day quarantine in a room of the hotel where he was staying, which is the protocol in place in the Canary Islands, which has free insurance via AXA to cover costs.
The health and judicial authorities were informed of what had happened, and will now monitor them accordingly and take the appropriate measures before they can return home to the UK.
