Joaquín Amills, the official spokesman for Beatriz the mother of Anna and Olivia, has released a plea to the authorities to continue searching for her youngest daughter’s body, and that of alleged murderer, Tomas Gimeno, saying that no-one can be at peace until they are found. This is what it says: “On behalf of Doña Beatriz Zimmerman de Zárate mother of little Olivia and Anna and as spokesperson for the family, I address the following plea to the relevant administrations.”
“On April 27th, the little six-year-old Olivia and one-year-old Anna were kidnapped by their father Tomas Gimeno, who according to the order of the Court of First Instance of Instruction No. 3 of Guimar were murdered the same day by their father who threw their bodies into the ocean to a depth of a thousand metres.”
“Thanks to the work of the Guardia Civil and the personnel from the Ángeles Alavariño ship which came from Vigo in mainland Spain to help with the search, the lifeless body of 6-year-old Olivia was found on June 10th.”
“It is thought that the empty sports bag next to the one that contained Olivia, had Anna's body in it, which, due to the fact the bag broke, has not been found. We assume according to the evidence that Tomas Gimeno ended his life at dawn on April 28th, by putting on a heavy diver’s weight belt and jumping into the sea, in the area that the Guardia Civil investigation has focused on.”
“In order to close this horrific case, it is necessary to find the body of little Anna and that of her murderer.”
As we are officially informed, the search will end on Thursday, June 16th, which leaves us perplexed and anguished, as is everyone that shares the family’s pain for such a cruel act, ending the life of two innocent girls just to inflict maximum pain on their mother.”
“That is why we plead and ask that the search for Anna and her alleged murderer, Tomas Gimeno, does not cease until all areas of their possible locations are fully and exhaustively reviewed and thus endorsed by the Guardia Civil investigators.”
“We ask that the search for Anna and her alleged murderer, Tomás Gimeno, DO NOT cease for other reasons such as work, financial or technical commitments.”
“The family of Olivia and Anna will not be able to have peace until they recover the body of their little girl, and especially that of the alleged murderer, it would be a pain, anguish and horror added in this case to the victim who is Beatriz Zimmerman, to think that such a monster is still alive.
The Ángeles Alvariño will remain in the search area for a few more days:
Yesterday afternoon it was confirmed by the central Government Delegate in the Canary Islands, Anselmo Pestana, that the oceanographic vessel will remain on the island "a few more days”.
The Ángeles Alvariño was scheduled to conclude the search for Anna and Tomás today to join research work being carried out by the Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO), however, its search in the seas around Tenerife will continue.
Pestana said that “everyone values the very remarkable work that the 'Ángeles Alvariño' has carried out, pushing the boats capabilities to their limit, and even breakdown.” He also thanked the Ministry of Science and Innovation for their generosity which has allowed the stay of the ship to be extended on two occasions, and now, a third time.
