The municipalities of Adeje, San Cristóbal de La Laguna, Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria are all this week in the top ten of large Spanish cities (with more than 40,000 inhabitants) where the trend of increasing Covid cases is the most, and in fact, Adeje is the top of that list.
Adeje leads this ranking for the first time with the highest increase in terms of its cumulative incidence over 14 days compared to the previous week. An IA14 of 112 cases per 100,000 inhabitants leads the municipality to have the highest trend in the entire country, with an increase of 175%.
According to the latest data presented by the Ministry of Health of the Canary Islands, up to now Adeje has had a total of 572 positive cases since the beginning of the pandemic, of which 111 are still active: four are in ICU, six in hospital wards and 101 quarantined at their homes.
The advance of infections in the area has risen in parallel with the number of sanctions imposed by the National Police last week. According to the latest report by the security forces between Adeje and Arona, 246 fines were filed for breaking the Covid regulations, the highest number of all the municipalities of Tenerife. In fact, in seven days, six establishments in these two municipalities were closed and fined for not respecting the capacity restrictions or social distancing.
