The residents of La Palma have been closely monitoring the island's volcano this weekend as the DANA passes through the Canary Islands bringing rain and storms. Known as the "Isla Bonita," La Palma has experienced the highest rainfall recorded in the Canary Islands in the last few hours.
It's the rain that has drawn attention towards the Cumbre Vieja volcano. The contact of rainfall with the warm slopes of the volcano has led to small columns of steam, caused by the heat of the slopes preventing the water from reaching the ground in its liquid state.
