This Wednesday, residents and holidaymakers in the Canary Islands can look forward to mostly sunny weather, according to the latest forecasts from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). While the overall outlook will feature mostly clear skies, occasional intervals of cloudiness are expected along the coasts of Tenerife and the western islands, accompanied by a haze that, to the relief of many, will start to dissipate as the afternoon progresses.
Temperatures will remain stable, with no significant fluctuations throughout the day, and could reach 30°C, especially in the southern part of the islands, while a slight decrease in minimum temperatures is anticipated in the summits, showcasing the climatic diversity that characterizes the archipelago.
The wind, a constant element in the Canary landscape, will blow gently in a variable direction in coastal areas. However, the summits will experience more intense conditions, with moderate south winds shifting to the northwest with some strong gusts, especially on the high peaks of Tenerife, where adventurers and hikers should prepare for a more challenging climate.
As for the sea, there will be generally calm conditions, with winds mostly ranging between force 2 and 3. Nevertheless, there will be moments when the wind reaches force 4, coming from the east or northeast. A slight swell will be the norm across much of the archipelago, although in some specific areas, the sea is expected to be slightly rougher, with a northwest swell reaching heights close to two metres.
Regarding temperatures, there will be significant variations across the archipelago, with Tenerife enjoying highs of 27°C and El Hierro recording the coolest minimums, around 15°C. This pattern of thermal stability, with slight decreases in maximums on the north and west slopes and a decrease in minimum temperatures in the summits, paints a complex yet pleasant climatic scenario for residents and visitors.
Gran Canaria, on its part, will be favoured with mostly clear skies, except for some nightly cloud intervals on the north and west coasts. The haze will be lighter here and will start to retreat as the hours pass.
In the eastern islands, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, clear skies will dominate with all but no haze, interrupted only by brief moments of cloudiness on the west coasts during the afternoon. Temperatures will remain high with few changes and could locally reach 30°C.
Las Palmas de Gran Canaria will experience a comfortable temperature range, with highs of 26°C and lows of 18°C, ideal conditions to enjoy the outdoor activities the island has to offer.
The wind will continue to be gentle and changing on the coasts but will showcase its strength at higher altitudes, where the south will give way to the northwest, accompanied by intervals of increased intensity.
