The Canary Islands Government, through the Directorate General of Emergencies, has declared a pre-alert for rain and strong storms in the Canary Islands, effective from 12:00pm (midday) tomorrow, Thursday 30th November.
This decision has been made after analysing information provided by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) and other available meteorological sources, in accordance with the Specific Emergency Plan for the Canary Islands for Risks of Adverse Weather Phenomena (PEFMA).
Rain is expected in all of the islands, ranging from showers to heavy downpours and storms, particularly on the western and southern regions of the islands as it is coming in from the Atlantic.
In La Palma, Tenerife and Gran Canaria, up to 60 litres of water in 12 hours is expected on the southern and western slopes of the islands with “intense showers” forecast.
There is also a high likelihood of strong storms in the more mountainous islands but they are not being ruled out in the more eastern islands of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura either.
The population is urged to follow the self-protection advice provided by the Directorate General of Emergencies to ensure their safety.
