The National Police have prevented the suicide of a 24-year-old Irish tourist who threatened to throw himself off the seventh floor of a hotel in Costa Adeje, as they managed to talk him down before he carried out his intentions.
Officers learned of the man’s suicide threats after an emergency call to 091 from the hotel, in which they were told that a male guest was threatening to commit suicide.
They immediately went to the complex and were directed to the seventh-floor room where they found the man's mother and partner who told them, as was evident by the state of the room, that a big argument had taken place with things thrown at each other, and that the man was on the balcony, so they called for backup.
As they went outside, they could see the man on the floor being restrained by a security guard from the hotel, who trying to prevent him from jumping. Due to his anger and adrenalin, the Irishman was especially hyperactive and violent and fought off the guard but was caught by the police officers who managed to hold him down and subdue him until reinforcements arrived.
After managing to calm him down, the holidaymaker was taken to hospital where he was guarded by police in case he tried to escape or carry out his threats, and was treated for some minor injuries during the incident.
