In a display of quick thinking and coordinated efforts, officers of the National Police successfully revived a 59-year-old man who collapsed at the South Tenerife Police Station, according to an official press release.
The incident occurred shortly after 10:00am on Friday (December 29th), whilst the man was at the station to process the renewal of his TIE residency card.
Without warning, the man suddenly collapsed for no apparent reason, prompting an immediate response from a vigilant police officer on duty and a staff member at the station. Upon initial assessment, they observed that the man had a weak pulse, and it was soon discovered that he was experiencing a cardiac arrest.
Without hesitation, the officers initiated basic life-saving manoeuvres, with colleagues joining in to provide necessary assistance. A defibrillator was quickly brought to the scene, and it was applied to the affected man with remarkable success, leading to the restoration of his pulse.
This success served as a catalyst for redoubling efforts to ensure the recovery of the man in question. The officers persevered in their life-saving endeavours until paramedics arrived fifteen minutes later. They further stabilised the man before transporting him to the Nuestra Señora de Candelaria University Hospital for further treatment.
The incident underlines the importance of basic training in emergency situations, the availability of essential equipment in public administration facilities, and the decisive and effective intervention of those present.
