The Local Police have arrested a 47-year-old man in Arona in the south of Tenerife, after discovering drugs hidden in intimate parts of his body during a traffic stop check, because his young daughters weren’t fastened in the back of the car.
The incident occurred at 9:45am yesterday (Wednesday) on Calle Santa Cruz de la Palma in El Fraile, where officers pulled over a beige Citroën C3 for a traffic violation.
According to the police report, the man, of Nigerian nationality, was driving with his two young daughters, aged 2 and 4, standing on the cars seats, which is a serious traffic violation that results in a deduction of 4 points from the driver's license.
Whilst giving him a ticket, officers noticed that the man was getting increasingly nervous and repeatedly touching his ‘private parts’. This suspicious behaviour prompted the officers to question him and conduct a thorough search in a private area.
The search revealed a paper package hidden in the man's intimate areas containing 30 wraps of crack, 10 of heroin, and 6 of cocaine. The man was immediately arrested for drug trafficking.
Following his arrest, the suspect was taken to Los Cristianos Health Centre for a medical examination. Due to concerns he might have ingested or concealed more substances within his body, he was transferred to El Mojón Hospital, where a radiological test confirmed the presence of a foreign object in his rectal area.
The Local Police completed the necessary paperwork and handed the case over to the Guardia Civil in Playa de las Américas, who took custody of the man and transported him to Hospital Nuestra Señora de Candelaria (HUNC). After a thorough examination at HUNC, no additional contraband was found. The suspect was then placed in custody awaiting judicial proceedings.
His two young daughters, distressed and crying due to their father's anxious state, were safely delivered to their destination within the El Fraile neighbourhood.
