The Canary Islands are preparing for a new incursion of haze expected to cover the entire archipelago by tomorrow, Wednesday, with a higher concentration of particles projected over the easternmost islands, i.e. Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.
By the latter part of Wednesday, this haze is forecasted to reach the western part of mainland Spain, and will gradually spread across the entire country, even reaching the Balearic Islands on Thursday and Friday.
The prevailing eastward winds in the Canary Islands on Tuesday brought a new dust load from the Sahara. This phenomenon will sweep across all the islands over the next couple of days, with significantly higher concentrations expected in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura than in Gran Canaria and Tenerife, potentially impacting visibility.
The good news is, that this episode of calima is expected to be short-lived, as a shift in wind direction is expected on Thursday in the Canary Islands, turning towards the northwest, which will help dissipate the haze from the archipelago.
