Fatal accident sparks renewed concerns over road safety issues in the south of Tenerife

Last Friday, 23rd August, a tragic accident on the TF-47 road in the south of Tenerife, claimed the life of a 65-year-old Belgian motorcyclist named Rudy. The collision happened at a junction by the Poste Sole apartments near Callao Salvaje in the municipality of Adeje, a location that has long been criticised for being dangerous.

The fatal incident has reignited a debate over the safety of this notorious junction, and despite numerous warnings and complaints from concerned locals, no effective measures have been taken to address the hazards at this crossing.

Myriam, Rudy’s partner, has publicly condemned the state of the intersection, describing the situation as a “genuine scandal” in an interview with Canariasenmoto.com. She stressed that the dangers of this crossing have been repeatedly reported to the Tenerife Cabildo, the authority responsible for road safety in the region.

In a video recorded by Myriam on Monday (August 26th), several cars can be seen making illegal left turns at the junction, despite clear prohibitions against such manoeuvres, the same manoeuvre that caused the accident that killed her husband just three days before.

This dangerous behaviour has become routine, with drivers using the illegal turn to access nearby residential areas or to change direction, significantly increasing the risk of accidents.

On the day of the accident, emergency services responded quickly and firefighters managed to rescue Rudy, who was in critical condition. However, despite the efforts of the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) to revive him, Rudy succumbed to his injuries at the site of the crash.

The incident has intensified calls for immediate action to improve safety at the intersection, where illegal manoeuvres continue to endanger lives.
