FIRE UPDATE: The forest fire is now on two fronts and affects 600,000m2

The fight against the Los Realejos fire, which started this morning (Thursday) in Tenerife, is now on two fronts already burning approximately 60 hectares of forest and scrubland, which is equivalent to 600,000m2 or 80 football pitches. The area has been described by firefighters as being “difficult to access and with a lot of fuel for the fire".

Pedro Martín has confirmed in statements to the press, that the fire no longer only in the municipality of Los Realejos, where it started at 10:19am this morning, as it has already spread to San Juan de la Rambla.

Five helicopters have been working at the site for several hours alongside a plane from La Gomera, and another helicopter from La Palma has left for Tenerife that has been requested to reinforce the ground crew, and Martin also confirmed that the Canary Islands have officially requested a seaplane from the Spanish Government for aerial support.

In addition, the teams of the forestry brigades have been dispatched in readiness to take over from the firefighters that have been working since this morning, for the evening and nightshift to try and contain the fire which is being spread by winds that channel up the ravines and valleys making their attempts even more difficult.
