A 28-year-old woman has been arrested after allegedly posing as a medical professional and using unauthorised substances, including veterinary medications, in aesthetic procedures.
The arrest, made on Monday (7th April) in Fuerteventura by the Guardia Civil as part of “Operation Rejuvenation”, follows several complaints from victims who suffered injuries after undergoing cosmetic treatments.
The investigation was launched after several women reported receiving invasive aesthetic injections, for which they paid up to €800.
Rather than achieving the promised results, the patients experienced adverse effects, including physical harm and deterioration of their health. Complaints also highlighted the unsanitary conditions of the premises where the procedures took place.
Promoting herself on social media as a qualified aesthetic doctor, the suspect operated out of a venue in Caleta de Fuste that was designed to resemble a licensed medical centre. To bolster her credibility, she displayed a forged university degree claiming she had graduated with honours in medicine from the United Kingdom.
However, the Guardia Civil’s inquiries revealed several serious irregularities:
Most alarmingly, it was discovered that she had been administering non-approved substances, some of which were veterinary drugs intended for use in animals, including dogs.
During a search of the premises, police seized illegal medical materials and arrested the suspect. Following her court appearance, she was remanded in custody without bail. The case is now in the hands of the judicial system, as investigations continue into the full extent of the alleged offences.
