Six people were injured in five separate traffic accidents across Tenerife yesterday, Sunday, including a motorcyclist who fell into a ravine, a head-on collision which left a woman trapped in her car, and a quad bike accident requiring a helicopter rescue.

Emergency services were called to incidents in Santa Cruz, Arona, Los Realejos, San Miguel de Abona and Adeje on Sunday morning and during the afternoon.

Several of those injured suffered moderate or serious trauma and required hospital treatment, while some of the incidents caused temporary traffic disruption.

Motorcyclist seriously injured after falling into ravine

The most serious accident occurred on the TF-28 in San Miguel de Abona, where a 33-year-old motorcyclist left the road and fell into a ravine.

Emergency services were alerted at 2.45pm and, due to the difficult terrain and severity of the accident, a medical helicopter was deployed alongside SUC ambulances, firefighters and the Guardia Civil.

Firefighters located and rescued the motorcyclist from the bottom of the ravine so that paramedics could treat him.

He was diagnosed with serious multiple injuries and, after being stabilised at the scene, was airlifted to the Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de Candelaria.

Woman trapped after head-on collision in Santa Cruz

Just half an hour earlier, at approximately 2.15pm, emergency services were called to a head-on collision on the road leading up to La Gallega in Santa Cruz, close to the junction with Calle Rositen.

According to initial reports, the driver of a dark-coloured car allegedly crossed into the opposite lane and collided head-on with a white van.

The 39-year-old woman driving the white car became trapped inside and had to be freed from the wreckage by firefighters.

She suffered moderate injuries and was taken by ambulance to the Hospital Universitario de Canarias (HUC).

The 48-year-old driver of the other vehicle was also taken to the HUC with minor injuries.

Helicopter rescue after quad bike accident in Adeje

Earlier in the day, a 25-year-old man was injured in a quad bike accident in Adeje.

The accident happened at around 11.10am near the Las Lajas recreational and BBQ area. Due to the difficult terrain, a GES rescue helicopter was deployed to reach the injured man.

He was airlifted to Tenerife North Airport, where an SUC ambulance was waiting to transfer him to the Hospital Universitario de Canarias.

His injuries were described as moderate. Red Cross personnel, environmental officers and the Guardia Civil also assisted with the operation.

78-year-old pedestrian hit by vehicle in Arona

Emergency services were called to another incident at 9.50am on the TF-66, the road from Guaza to Las Galletas in the south of Tenerife, where a 78-year-old man was hit by a car.

SUC paramedics treated him at the scene for moderate injuries before transferring him by ambulance to the Hospital del Sur.

The Guardia Civil controlled traffic in the area and opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.

Motorcyclist injured in Los Realejos

A fifth accident occurred at 12.32pm on the TF-21 in Los Realejos, in the north of the island.

A 34-year-old motorcyclist was injured after falling from his bike at kilometre 29.

Red Cross and SUC personnel treated him for moderate injuries before he was transferred by ambulance to Hospiten Bellevue.

The Guardia Civil assisted at the scene and carried out the corresponding traffic investigation.

The five incidents made it a particularly busy Sunday for Tenerife’s emergency services, with six people injured across the island and two separate accidents requiring helicopter rescue operations.
