Police open murder investigation after woman found dead in ravine in Gran Canaria

The Guardia Civil are investigating the death of a 61-year-old woman whose body was discovered in a ravine in Gran Canaria, amid suspicions that she may have been murdered.

Details have only just been released even though her body was found last Sunday in the Cañada de los Gatos ravine in Mogán, in the south of the island, by several people who were passing through the area.

According to information released about the investigation, the woman was found with a rock on her head and had suffered severe head trauma, raising concerns that her death may not have been accidental.

Subsequently, investigators are treating the case as a possible homicide while they work to establish exactly what happened.

Victim identified as German resident

Investigators confirmed the identity of the deceased yesterday, Saturday, as a 61-year-old German national who lived in Gran Canaria and had a family property on the island.

However, she had recently been living in a makeshift tent or shelter located very close to the area where her body was discovered.

The Guardia Civil are now working to reconstruct the woman's final movements and determine the circumstances surrounding her death.

At this stage, the investigation remains open and authorities have not confirmed that a crime definitely took place. The case is being investigated as a possible homicide due to the circumstances in which the body was found and the injuries suffered by the victim.

Further forensic and investigative work will be key to establishing the exact cause of death and whether another person was involved.
