Six people were injured yesterday, Sunday, after a fire broke out in the kitchen of a hotel located on Avenida de Las Marismas, in the municipality of Antigua, in Fuerteventura, according to reports from the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES).
Firefighters were quickly dispatched to the scene and successfully extinguished the flames and ventilated the affected area. The emergency response also involved staff from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), who assessed and treated the people affected by smoke inhalation.
Five of the six victims required hospitalisation and were transported by ambulance to the General Hospital of Fuerteventura. Those taken to hospital include a 32-year-old man, a 50-year-old man, a 55-year-old man, a 60-year-old man, and a 59-year-old woman. All were reported to have suffered moderate smoke inhalation poisoning, although none of their injuries are currently considered life-threatening.
A sixth victim, a 55-year-old woman, was treated at the scene and did not need further treatment.
The Local Police were also on-site, securing the area and supporting the coordinated efforts of emergency personnel. The exact cause of the fire has not yet been made public. Authorities are continuing their investigation.
