Man dies after being pulled from the sea at beach in Costa Adeje

A 47-year-old man has died after being rescued from the sea on Monday afternoon at Puertito Beach in Costa Adeje, south Tenerife.

The incident occurred at around 3:20pm, when the man suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest while in the water, according to emergency services (112).

Lifeguards at the beach were the first to respond administering CPR on site until paramedics from the Canary Emergency Service (SUC) arrived.

Despite continued efforts to revive the man using advanced resuscitation techniques, they were ultimately unsuccessful, and his death was confirmed.

The Local Police and Guardia Civil were also present and took charge of the necessary legal procedures, including guarding the body until judicial authorities gave permission for it to be taken for autopsy.

This incident comes amid a concerning trend, with Tenerife recording the highest number of sea-related fatalities in the Canary Islands, 25 deaths over the past year. Authorities continue to stress the importance of caution when engaging in water activities along the island’s coastlines.
