Covid update: Vaccination starts in schools tomorrow with the Vacuna Buses

The Canary Islands have added 1,151 new cases today with 752 people medically discharged, leaving 103,533 active cases with 596 in hospital wards and 88 in ICU. The Ministry of Health has also reported eight Covid related deaths of people aged between 53 and 93 years old. Of the deaths, five were registered in Gran Canaria and three in Tenerife, while all had previous pathologies and were already hospitalized.

The SCS has updated the vaccination data for the islands, and so far 770,761 people have received their booster jab and 66,974 children between 5-11 years old have had their first dose.

They have also confirmed that the ‘Vacuna buses’ will start visiting schools from tomorrow to vaccinate this age group, where parents have signed a consent form in advance to allow their vaccination. Tomorrow they are going to one school in Gran Canaria and two in Tenerife and will give the first jab to 100 children in each location.

Parents who do not want their children to be vaccinated at school can go to the vaccination centres every day of the week, including weekends, without an appointment to get their children protected.
