Covid update: The rebound in new cases and incidence rates continues

The Canary Islands have finished the week with Tenerife being lowered to  Level 3 restrictions, while new cases have rebounded in numbers since Monday, and the 7-day and 14-day incidence rates have both increased again to 437 over 7 days and almost 700 over 14 days. 

Today the Ministry of Health have reported 1,871 new cases and 963 medical discharges, meaning that active cases have increased by 905 to 19,201 with 296 hospitalised in wards and 43 in ICU.

There have also been three more deaths in the last 24 hours taking the death toll to 1,569 since the pandemic began. Two people died in Gran Canaria and one in Tenerife aged between 78 and 82 years old.

With these deaths, the virus has claimed 151 lives so far in February, making this month the second deadliest of the pandemic in the Canary Islands, only behind January, when 278 people infected with Covid died.
