Covid update: Data continues to drop, but the deaths continue at a high rate

The Ministry of Health has reported 1,476 new cases of coronavirus in the Canary Islands today, with the most in Tenerife where there were 657, followed by Gran Canaria with 548, Fuerteventura with 90, La Palmas with 81, Lanzarote with 50, El Hierro with 32, and La Gomera with 18.

There were also 1,265 people discharged leaving 103,733 active cases in the islands of which 589 are hospitalised and 83 are in ICU. They have also verified 11 more deaths from Covid in the islands, all aged between 65 and 95 years old, six were registered in Tenerife, four in Gran Canaria and one in Lanzarote. All had previous pathologies and were already hospitalized.

Yesterday only La Palma had a change in alert level moving from Level 4 to Level 3 from midnight last night. Although there is a downward trend in the data it is the hospital pressure that is preventing the other islands to be changed.

On Tuesday the Minister of Health for Spain said that the quickest and easiest way to release this pressure and get out of the pandemic, is for everyone eligible for a vaccine to get one as soon as possible as 70% of hospital admissions for Covid are unvaccinated people.
