Covid continues to fall in the Canary Islands: 459 new cases and 6 deaths

The Ministry of Health of the Canary Islands has provisionally reported 459 new cases of coronavirus today taking the total accumulated cases in the Islands to 271,026 with 105,816 active, of which 73 are admitted to ICU and 479 remain hospitalized. In the last 24 hours, the deaths of six people have been reported: four in Gran Canaria and two in Tenerife, pending validation by the General Directorate of Public Health.

By Islands, Gran Canaria has the most today with 236 new cases, Tenerife has 124, La Palma 25 Fuerteventura has 42, La Gomera 16, Lanzarote has 12, and El Hierro has 4.

Incidence rates have dropped again due to the low number of cases, with the IA7 for the islands at 242.51, with both Tenerife and Lanzarote both now being less than 200. Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura are now both below 300 as the decrease in data continues.

This weekend is the first for months that wearing masks outside in public is not mandatory in the Canary Islands, as long as social distancing can be maintained, and in the south, they are a very rare sight. However, in the capital many people are taking to the streets choosing to still wear one, preferring to continue protecting themselves and reducing the chance of catching the virus.
