British demand for holidays fuels winter tourism in the Canary Islands

The hotel sector in the Canary Islands is preparing for a bumper winter season this year, mainly thanks to a surge in demand from British tourists, who account for 43% of international tourism in the archipelago.

Projections for the island's traditional high season are promising, according to a study by international consulting firm PwC and the Spanish Confederation of Hotels and Tourist Accommodations (CEHAT).

Key points from the study were shared with Tenerife's hoteliers during a presentation organized by Ashotel. The event featured the participation of José Manuel Sanabria, the Deputy Minister of Tourism for the Canary Islands Government, Juan Pablo González, Ashotel's manager, and PwC's director José Antonio Domínguez.

The report draws on the results of the Smart Observatory index, which analyses the evolution of the hotel industry in Spain, offering insights into trends expected over the next three months.

Notably, the Canary Islands have succeeded in reducing winter cancellations by 2.2% compared to the previous year, showcasing the resilience of the region's tourism industry.
