At last the heatwave is coming to an end as temperatures drop to 30°C

The long-awaited respite from the relentless heat that has gripped the Canary Islands is on the horizon… at last! The State Meteorological Agency, AEMET, has announced that temperatures will finally drop in the archipelago today (Sunday), offering a much-needed break from the intense heat that has plagued the region.

In addition to cooler temperatures, the haze is expected to subside too as a significant weather front is approaching the islands, bringing in the climate for the Canary Islands.

AEMET's forecast for today shows high-altitude cloudiness throughout the region, with occasional intervals of medium clouds, primarily during the latter part of the day. There will also be a gradual reduction in the prevailing haze, particularly during the afternoon.

The anticipated drop in temperature is expected to be most noticeable in the daytime, bringing relief to residents and tourists alike, although, temperatures are still likely to range from 30°C to 32°C in many areas across the islands, with some exceptions in sheltered areas on the southern slopes of Tenerife, where temperatures may still reach 34 degrees.

In the province of Las Palmas, a similar weather pattern is expected, with high cloud cover throughout the day, interspersed with medium clouds, primarily in Gran Canaria later today. Like their counterparts in the other islands, residents of Gran Canaria can expect the haze to subside as the afternoon progresses.

With the impending weather front bringing cooler and more comfortable conditions, residents and visitors to the Canary Islands can look forward to a break from the prolonged heatwave, with temperatures returning to normal for the time of year.
