A semi-rigid inflatable boat was intercepted in waters near El Hierro on Friday, carrying approximately 500 kilograms of cocaine on board, according to initial assessments following the weighing yesterday (Saturday) of the bundles after being taken to the port of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Sources close to the investigation have told the EFE news agency, that the boat, known in police jargon as a "goma" (semi-rigid boat), was located by the Cóndor patrol boat about 93 kilometres from the island of El Hierro on Friday. Onboard were four people, who have been arrested, and a large amount of narcotics.

The operation was carried out by agents of Customs Surveillance from the Tax Agency, who transported the boat to the Naval Base in the Las Palmas port, arriving at around 10:00am, to unload the drugs and hand over the four detainees to the National Police.

Of the four arrested individuals, one is of Spanish nationality, another is Colombian, and the remaining two hold Moroccan passports, according to the sources consulted.

The investigation is ongoing to determine the source and destination of the drugs, and who else is involved in the operation.
