The latest data from the Ministry of Health shows that 438,858 doses of the three vaccines against Covid-19 approved by the European Medicines Agency have been administered in the Canary Islands, which is 85.6% of the 512,410 received. Of the total doses administered, 303,049 were from Pfizer, 24,120 from Moderna and 111,689 from AstraZeneca.
Up until last night, Tuesday, 119,987 people have already received both doses of the vaccine in the Canary Islands, representing 6.41% of the target population (1,871,033 people), and 17,609 people were inoculated yesterday alone.
The vaccination schedule is being developed by the target population groups to which it is directed and by available vaccine allocated for each age group according to the National Vaccination Strategy against Covid-19. The vaccination teams on each island are advancing with each population group as the previous one ends, without waiting for other islands as population and demographic varies from island to island.
In this way, the Ministry of Health informs that it has already begun to vaccinate people between 70 and 79 years old, who make up Group 5B, in some of the health centres in the Canary Islands. This group is being inoculated with the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines.
At the moment only three vaccines are being used, as the supply of the Janssen single dose vaccine has been delayed due to concerns over blood clotting, and the Sputnik V vaccine has not yet been approved by the EMA. The AstraZeneca vaccine is being administered to those aged 60-69, and Pfizer and Moderna are being used for everyone else.
The Ministry of Health has opened three new vaccination points today against in Tenerife, located in the Guajara Campus of the University of La Laguna, in the Garachico Clinic, and in the Technological Center of Candelaria (CTcan), in the Güímar Valley Industrial Park, to vaccinate the population aged 60 to 69, and they are aiming to open mass vaccination points at the Recinto Ferial in Santa Cruz and at the Magma Centre in Adeje on Monday or Tuesday.
The opening of these new spaces will help speed up the vaccination process on the Island, as more vaccines have been received in recent days. The three new immunization points will be open every day of the week.
