The increase in temperatures predicted by AEMET for yesterday, due to the arrival of a warm and dry air mass from Africa, left highs above 28 degrees in the municipality of Antigua, in Fuerteventura, the highest temperature recorded in the archipelago on Thursday.
In La Gomera, a temperature of 27.8 degrees was recorded in the municipality of Agulo, and 27.6 degrees in La Aldea at 2:10pm, according to data collected and disseminated by the State Meteorological Agency.
From early in the morning, the mercury was already rising and marking unusual highs for the month of January in various parts of the archipelago, such as in Pájara, also in Fuerteventura, where 25.8 degrees were reached at nine o’clock in the morning.
Returning to today’s forecast, and the high haze persists during this Friday, especially in the most eastern islands (Lanzarote and Fuerteventura) remaining throughout the day. Aemet foresees slightly cloudy or clear skies but temperatures will remain unchanged. The wind will continue from the east being from light to moderate in strength, especially in the south-facing areas inland.
Tomorrow, Saturday, temperatures will begin to drop slightly, especially the maximums, coinciding with the gradual retreat of the high altitude haze. The drop in temperatures will be more pronounced in the eastern islands where it will be more noticeable. The wind will turn to the northeast, still only light to moderate, increasing in strength in the second half of the day.
This trend will continue throughout Sunday until by the end of the weekend the haze will have completely cleared.
Temperatures for the weekend are still high for the time of year and will hit 25 degrees in all of the islands, except for El Hierro which is always cooler, skies will be clear, winds will be light, no rain is predicted... it’s definitely beach weather to finish January!
