AEMET has warned of a further change in conditions across the Canary Islands, with cooler temperatures, strong winds and the possibility of light rain expected today, Monday.
Forecasters say there is a chance of light, scattered showers, particularly during the early hours, affecting the more mountainous islands of Tenerife and Gran Canaria.
Winds are set to blow moderately from the northeast, strengthening overnight and into the morning on the southern, southeastern and northwestern slopes. Temperatures are also forecast to fall, with inland areas of the higher islands likely to see a moderate drop in daytime highs.
Warnings in place
AEMET has issued yellow alerts for rough seas and strong winds, which will remain in force across much of the archipelago until 11:00am.
Along the coast, northeasterly winds are expected to reach Force 5 to 7 on the Beaufort scale, dropping to 3 or 4 in some areas, but with isolated gusts potentially increasing to Force 8 around the central islands and La Gomera. Seas will be rough to very rough, with a northerly swell bringing waves of between two and three metres, especially along northern shores.
Outlook for each island:
LANZAROTE:
Conditions are forecast to be mostly cloudy, with a slight chance of isolated showers early in the day. The southeast coast should see clearer skies by afternoon. Temperatures will remain stable, while moderate northeasterly winds could become locally strong in the south before easing after midday.
Temperature range: minimum of 21°C, maximum of 27°C.
FUERTEVENTURA:
Generally cloudy at first, becoming clearer in eastern areas as the day progresses. Winds will blow moderately from the northeast, with stronger intervals likely in southern Jandía. Temperatures are not expected to change significantly.
Temperature range: minimum of 21°C, maximum of 26°C.
GRAN CANARIA:
Cloudy conditions are expected in the north below 1,200 to 1,400 metres, with a low chance of light rain overnight and in the early morning at mid-altitudes. The rest of the island should remain mostly clear. Moderate northeasterly winds will be strong at times on southeastern and western slopes, with very strong gusts possible during the first hours of the day.
Temperature range: minimum of 21°C, maximum of 24°C.
TENERIFE:
Northern and northeastern areas below 1,400 metres will be cloudy, with a slight chance of occasional light rain overnight. Elsewhere is likely to remain clear, though some clouds may appear in the south later. Temperatures will hold steady in coastal areas but could see a slight to moderate drop inland and at higher elevations. Winds will be moderate from the northeast, stronger in the southeast, west, and along the southern slopes of the Anaga massif and around the capital, with gusts potentially reaching very strong levels overnight.
