The Canary Islands have added 184 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, increasing total accumulated to 49,127 since the pandemic began, while deaths reach 693 after one new Covid related death recorded in Gran Canaria, according to the latest data provided by the Ministry of Health of the Canary Islands this afternoon.
Active cases always increase at the weekend as there are fewer medical discharges from hospitals, so of the total accumulated cases 4,705 are still active , of which 77 are admitted to the ICU, 321 remain hospitalized, and 4,307 are isolated at home.
Of the new cases Tenerife has registered the most today with 92, Gran Canaria has 72, Lanzarote 11, and Fuerteventura 9. La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro have no new cases in the last 24 hours. In addition, so far a total of 992,847 PCR tests have been carried out on the islands, of which 2,178 were in the last day. Overall 52,874 have been positive, which represents 5.33%.
Regarding the Accumulated Incidence rates (AI) in the Canary Islands, over 7 days the trend continues to move in the wrong direction and is now 69.90 cases per 100,000 inhabitants; and over 14 days it grows to 128.40 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. Gran Canaria’s IA7 is now over 80 and Tenerife’s almost 75, which are plainly the two islands that will keep the Canaries in amber or red traffic lights if this persists.
