The Ministry of Health has reported of 123 new cases of coronavirus in the Canary Islands today (Friday), of which 56 are in Tenerife, 35 are in Gran Canaria, 27 in Lanzarote, 3, in La Gomera, 1 in Fuerteventura, 1 in La Palma, and none in El Hierro.
They have also informed of three Covid related deaths, two of which are in Gran Canaria and one in Tenerife, meaning that a total of 739 people have lost their lives during the pandemic. The deceased are confirmed as a 86-year-old man in Tenerife, and a 62-year-old man and a 59-year-old woman in Gran Canaria, all with previous pathologies and already in hospital.
The sharp increase in new cases in Lanzarote, are from a sport related outbreak responsible for 22 of them, and the rest are via family. Likewise, three new cases reported during the morning are being studied to determine if they correspond to close contacts of those affected.
The good news for the islands is that the number of active cases and the incidence rates continue to drop. The total number of active cases has gone below 3,000 for the first time this year, and Tenerife has dipped below 2,000. Regarding the incidence rates, the IA7 for the islands is now 43.52 and Fuerteventura has the lowest IA14 of all the islands at just 18.37.
