A violent altercation following a traffic incident involving a car and an electric scooter escalated dramatically on Monday night, ending with one man attacking the other with a katana (Samurai sword).
The confrontation happened at 9:40pm on Calle Domingo Ramos in Las Palmas, following a minor collision that led to the use of a katana by one of the people involved.
The victim suffered a severe cut to his thigh and was taken to hospital for urgent treatment, and the assailant fled the scene in his car. The investigation has since been taken over by the National Police who are still looking for the man.
Separate Incident Involving Stolen Vehicle and Minors
Later that night, at 3:03am, two minors were arrested on Calle Archivero Joaquín Blanco in connection with the theft of a car. Upon being stopped by police, one of the youths was found to be driving without a licence, under the influence of drugs, and in a vehicle bearing false number plates on both the front and rear.
Both were taken into police custody, where they remain while the investigation continues.
Authorities have expressed concern over the escalating level of violence and lawlessness reflected in these two unrelated yet troubling incidents, both of which unfolded within a few hours in the capital of Gran Canaria.
