The Ministry of Health has reported that April has started with 219 new cases of coronavirus in the Canary Islands, of which 100 are in Gran Canaria, 80 are in Tenerife, 20 in Fuerteventura, 6 in Lanzarote, and 11 are in La Palma after an outbreak in Tzacorte. One death was registered today of an 89 year old woman in Tenerife who was hospitalised and had previous pathologies.
March ended worse than it started, as on the first day of the month, the infections registered in the Canary Islands were 115, yesterday, it doubled to 230, after five days without exceeding 200 daily positives. In total there were 74 deaths and 5,929 infections during the month, 15% more than in February. 505 people were forced to enter hospital, 126 in ICUs, and the accumulated rate over seven days went from 52 cases to the current 60.
The Canary Islands has recorded 95 new outbreaks of Covid-19 this week with 503 cases, of which 15 have required hospital admissions and one person has died. Of the 95 new outbreaks, 46 have occurred in Gran Canaria, 39 in Tenerife, 5 in Fuerteventura, 3 in La Palma and 2 in Lanzarote, and 43 are family outbreaks, 22 social, 21 work related, 4 educational, 3 sports and 2 in socially vulnerable groups.
