A man died yesterday morning (Sunday) after being run over by a car in Puerto de La Luz in Las Palmas (Gran Canaria), as reported by the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES).
The incident took place at around 8:50am, which is when the 112 call centre received an urgent request for medical assistance, with the caller explaining that a man had been knocked over and needed help.
Paramedics were dispatched to the area, but when they arrived, they could only confirm that he was already dead from his injuries sustained in the accident.
The Local Police carried out the corresponding report which shows that the driver of the vehicle that knocked him over, had collected his car from the port car park after a night out, and tested positive for drunk driving.
According to sources close to the victim, he has been identified as a well-known runner in the area with the initial MM, who was out on a morning run in the port, which is widely used by runners, especially in the mornings at weekends. The news caused a shock among local running fans.
