Two men are under investigation by the Guardia Civil after filming themselves performing dangerous drifting stunts on public roads in Gran Canaria and posting the footage on social media.
The Guardia Civil launched an inquiry after the videos emerged online, showing the drivers skidding around bends at high speed, a risky practice known as ‘drifting’. Officers say the pair repeatedly crossed into oncoming lanes, lost control of their cars, and even struck roadside barriers and traffic signs.
A statement released on Saturday confirmed that traffic specialists in Las Palmas managed to identify the vehicles, the locations and the times of the offences by analysing the videos.
One of the suspects is reportedly highly active on car-related social media channels and is believed to have edited and shared the clips himself.
The case has now been handed over to the Duty Court in Santa María de Guía, where the men could face serious penalties.
Warning to drivers
The Guardia Civil is urging both residents and tourists to drive responsibly and not to imitate or support this type of reckless behaviour, which puts lives at risk.
