WEATHER WARNINGS: Flights diverted from Tenerife South airport due to the wind

The strong winds, as predicted by AEMET, have taken their toll at Tenerife South airport with several inbound domestic and international flights diverted yesterday evening (Tuesday), and the alerts are still in place today as the wind continues.

Air Traffic Controllers have reported on Twitter that measures are being taken to guarantee the safety of passengers with EasyJet, Jet2, and TUI flights from Manchester, Leeds/Bradford, and Luton all diverted from landing at TFS to Fuerteventura, where they stayed until it had died down enough for them to land in Tenerife.

The weather situation is expected to improve tomorrow (Thursday) as weather warnings currently end at midnight tonight, and normal flights will be restored once conditions are safe, but in the meantime, active yellow and orange weather warnings for strong winds up to 90km/h are still in force in the southeast of Tenerife which is where the airport is located.

AENA are advising all passengers to check the status of the flights for Wednesday with their respective airlines before going to the airport, as the airline will take the necessary measures to ensure the safety of passengers and crew, which may include rescheduling the flight or even cancelling it if necessary, not only due to the wind but also by the planes to take them not getting to Tenerife on time.
