Two Guardia Civil officers face jail in Tenerife for issuing false fines

The Prosecutor's Office in Santa Cruz de Tenerife has requested that two Guardia Civil police officers be sentenced to five years each in prison for falsifying fines to harm a relative of one of them. Allegedly, both jointly agreed to sanction a brother-in-law, issuing a fine for driving his car without insurance.

One of the accused agents wrote out the sanction and the other stamped his signature on it, however, the victim was able to prove that the time and date they put on it, his car was locked in a garage overnight as it was being serviced.

The Prosecutors Office found various ‘holes’ in the police sanction and claim that "the events that the officers reported could not have occurred in reality." The Public Ministry maintains that the two agents committed an alleged continued crime of forgery of public documents against the man.

In addition to the prison sentences, and disqualification from joining any state security forces for five years, a 20-month fine is requested with a daily quota of eight euros.

During the trial scheduled for next week, the workshop manager, other agents, a Guardia Civil sergeant, and a handwriting expert will be present to certify the veracity of the allegedly falsified documents.
