The PSOE party in Arona is demanding that the municipal government take the necessary steps to order the repair of the Los Tarajales promenade seawall in Los Cristianos, which has suffered damage due to strong waves and winter storms.
The spokesman for the party, Jose Julián Mena, reminded the new government that the previous council, of which he was mayor, had approved a construction project, coordinated with the provincial coastal authority, to address these damages along the promenade in April of this year.
This project was published on the official contracting platform on May 11th, and today, four months later, the work has yet to start. Mena continued by highlighting the serious safety concerns this delay could pose for tourists and residents in this area.
The work, which was put out for bidding in May with a budget of half a million euros, involves the restoration of a section of the Los Tarajales promenade that sustained significant damage, including the replacement of the promenade's railings along the seafront.
The project was made available to the Directorate General of Coastal Affairs, and after incorporating all the necessary adjustments and modifications as per their recommendations, it was put up for bidding. The aim is to address all the damages caused by the sea along this stretch of the Los Cristianos coastline.
The repairs have a two-month execution period, making it imperative to start as soon as possible to ensure completion before the winter weather and rough seas come again which could further erode the seawall, leading to more extensive damages that may require additional work costing more money.
