The Cabildo reports an outbreak of fire in the hills of south Tenerife

The Cabildo de Tenerife has reported an outbreak of fire this morning (Thursday) in La Escalona in the south of Tenerife. It started in an area of fruit trees and has mainly affected dry grass, but was quickly brought under control thanks to the Tenerife Fire Brigade.

Emergency personnel from BRIFOR were also dispatched to the location given, in the municipality of Vilaflor, and participated in the extinction of the fire and continued watering of the ground to prevent it from starting again due to the heat and dryness of the terrain.

Thanks to their quick reaction, it was possible to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby areas and prevent a much larger-scale emergency situation.

The Cabildo are asking the population to exercise extreme precautions and avoid actions that could trigger forest fires. The collaboration of the public, residents and tourists, is essential to avoid wildfires and preserve our natural environment.

HIGH ALERT FOR FOREST FIRE
The Government of the Canary Islands has activated the highest level of alert for the risk of forest fires in the Western Islands and in Gran Canaria. This means that all local councils have activated their respective Island Emergency Plans, with all of the emergency services, surveillance, and fire prevention on standby.

Everyone must remember that it is prohibited to light a fire in any open space, as well as in places set up for it in recreational areas, camping areas and shelters, which are all closed. It is requested to avoid transit through mountain areas, after the closure of trails and forest tracks.
