The Guardia Civil have arrested two men in the south of Tenerife with the help of the K9 Canine Unit of the Adeje Local Police, suspected of drug dealing in possession of 10.8 grams of cocaine and 50 grams of hashish prepared in wraps to sell.
The first incident took place on Tuesday evening after police set up a checkpoint on the way to Puertito de Adeje. The man’s car was stopped so that officers could check his identification and vehicle papers, but sniffer dogs, who also checked every car, identified something hidden inside.
Due to this, officers searched the car and found 10.8 grams of cocaine cleverly hidden under the central console of his vehicle. Remarkably, the police dogs had been able to detect the illicit substance even in a challenging and hard-to-reach place.
The second man was arrested after he tried to evade another police identification checkpoint in the town of Callao Salvaje. When stopped he seemed very nervous raising suspicions among the officers. Once again, the police dogs played a crucial role in this case, as they located 50 grams of hashish in one of his pockets, clearly prepared to sell.
Both men, along with the legal proceedings initiated against them, were handed over to the Duty Court in Arona. This successful operation highlights the valuable contribution of police dogs in combating drug-related crimes in the Canary Islands.
