The Tenerife Cabildo has informed this afternoon (Friday) that the Masca Valley is closed to the public today, and for the rest of the weekend, due to high temperatures which could exceed 36 degrees, according to forecasts.
The Minister of Management of the Natural Environment and Safety, Isabel García, has explained in a statement that "it is a very physically demanding route, and the expected high temperatures pose a health risk to visitors."
She also emphasized that “given the possibility that rescues have to be made, we do not want to occupy resources and hinder the extinguishing work they are involved in at the Los Realejos fire.”
García warned that access is prohibited, both on foot and by any other means, to the public forests in the area of the Corona Forestal Natural Park in the municipalities of La Orotava, Los Realejos, San Juan de La Rambla, La Guancha, and Icod de Los Vinos.
The emergency measures activated on Wednesday for the prevention of forest fires in five of the islands are also still in force. This means that the prohibition of the cultural and recreational use of fire (agricultural and forest burning, barbecues, bonfires), machinery that can generate sparks, and any pyrotechnic material is maintained.
