Following the Governing Council meeting this afternoon chaired by the Canary Islands President, Angel Victor Torres, the Government spokesman, Julio Perez, announced that, following the review of the epidemiological report for the archipelago, the Covid Certificate is no longer mandatory in the Canary Islands, and that Gran Canaria and Tenerife are staying at Level 4, while La Palma is dropping to Level 3 with the rest of the islands from tonight.
As expected there haven’t been major changes in levels due to ongoing hospital pressure, particularly in Tenerife and Gran Canaria, however, he did say that many of the data are favourable and are showing a continued downward trend.
“The situation allows us to soften some of the measures, but not to disarm us. There are areas in which it is possible”, explained Pérez in the press conference. “For this reason, we are removing the obligation to request or present the Covid Certificate,” he added.
Also, he explained that although its mandatory use is being abolished, they are going to ask the TSJC to allow it to be extended so that businesses who want to demand this from their clients can do so and take advantage of the capacity and closing time from the level below.
He also said they are modifying closing times so that bars, restaurants, nightlife, or any business whose licence allows, can now close as follows from tonight:
Level 4 – Midnight
Level 3 – 2am
Level 2 – 3am
Level 1 – 4am
More to follow about closing times and voluntary use of the certificate...
