Summer must have started as a couple of guests at a hotel in the south of Tenerife have been filmed just after sunrise unstacking the sunbeds by the pool, so they can reserve theirs and put their towels out before anyone else.
The summer holidays, when more young couples and families come to the Canary Islands, always bring scenes of poolside pandemonium with guests battling for the best spots.
However, one couple in Tenerife have taken it even further by getting up at the crack of dawn and doing the hotel staff's job of unstacking the sunbeds themselves and putting them where they wanted around the pool.
Another guest at the hotel, who was on his balcony at the time, spotted the couple and started to video them, urging them to "go back to bed" as they tried to unstack the beds.
@mr_kipling76 posted the video on Tiktok which has been seen almost 40,000 times leaving others bewildered by the footage commenting: "This is one of the big reasons I stick to villas and AirBnBs now, no need to do this ever" and "I don’t care if your towel is on a sunbed if you're not on it in 5 mins your towel's gone."
There are some unwritten etiquette rules regarding the ‘reserving’ of sunbeds on holiday, that some guests are apparently not aware of, for example, don’t reserve one if you're not planning on using it, and unless the hotel has a reservation system in place, only occupy the sunbeds when you're staying by the pool, to avoid being disrespectful toward other guests.
Meanwhile, some hotels instruct staff members to remove towels from the sunbeds if guests aren't using them, and others have even been reported throwing them into the pool or into bushes to prevent people from reserving them at all.
What do you consider to be fair?
