The Spanish Agency of Medicines and Medical Devices (AEMPS) has announced the recall of a batch of metformin, a first-line medication for treating type 2 diabetes.
Specifically, the commercial name is Metformina Vir 850 mg film-coated tablets EFG, 50 tablets (NR: 72708, CN: 681987), and the affected batch is S003, with an expiration date of 30/06/2024.
The reason for the recall is the detection of an “out of specification” result in the impurity parameter. AEMPS has clarified that this is a quality defect that does not pose any life-threatening risk to patients.
However, they advise taking any tablets you may have back to the pharmacy as soon as possible with a copy of your prescription, so they can be replaced.
