Several roads in Gran Canaria remain closed for safety reasons today, including the main access route to Pico de las Nieves, as authorities continue to deal with the effects of severe weather conditions on the island.

The GC-134, which provides access to Pico de las Nieves, is currently closed, along with the GC-130, where the situation is particularly difficult due to the presence of ice on the road surface. Icy conditions are preventing safe travel through areas such as Caldera de los Marteles and Cruz de los Llanos.

In addition, access remains restricted on several other roads across the island. These include sections of the GC-210, GC-200, GC-605, GC-135, GC-231, GC-606 and GC-400. Maintenance teams are continuing work to clear debris, remove hazards and assess the condition of the road surfaces before reopening them to traffic.

The Cabildo de Gran Canaria has strongly advised the public to avoid unnecessary travel, especially to higher altitude areas and the summit zone.

Anyone who must travel is urged to do so with a full fuel tank of fuel, appropriate warm clothing, and to follow official updates and instructions regarding road conditions at all times.

Residents and tourists planning trips to inland or mountainous areas are encouraged to check the latest road status before travelling, as conditions can change quickly and icy roads remain a serious risk.
