EasyJet has confirmed it will not increase the price of tickets already booked to and from the Canary Islands, offering reassurance to holidaymakers amid rising fuel costs linked to tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, a major Middle East oil shipping route

The airline, which carries thousands of passengers each week between the islands and destinations across the UK and Europe, said customers will not face any additional charges after making a reservation. This includes any potential fuel surcharges, even if operating costs rise before departure.

Chief executive Kenton Jarvis said the policy is designed to give travellers confidence when booking ahead of the busy summer season. He stressed that once a booking is confirmed, the price will remain fixed regardless of fluctuations in fuel costs.

The move comes as some airlines have introduced pricing models linked to fuel costs. Under these systems, passengers could face surcharges of up to €14 per flight if fuel prices increase, although they may receive partial refunds if costs fall.

The recent disruption in the Strait of Hormuz has pushed up the cost of aviation fuel, raising concerns across the travel industry. Despite this, easyJet says it will operate its full summer schedule across its network, while some competitors have reduced planned flights.

The airline expects to carry more than 50 million passengers this summer. It also confirmed that if a flight is cancelled, customers will be offered an alternative service, a voucher or a full refund.
