Temperatures to drop in the Canary Islands this Saturday, but highs of 34°C still possible

Temperatures are forecast to fall across the Canary Islands today (Saturday), although it will remain hot in many areas, with highs of 30°C or more still expected, according to the latest forecast from AEMET.

The biggest drops in temperature are expected in inland areas and at higher altitudes, particularly on south and west-facing slopes. However, the cooler conditions will not be felt everywhere, with temperatures potentially reaching 34°C in parts of Gran Canaria.

Cloudy skies are forecast across the north of the more mountainous islands, with a small chance of light and occasional rain, particularly in mid-altitude areas.

Lanzarote and Fuerteventura will generally see clearer conditions, although some cloud is expected in northern and western areas.

Temperatures will fall slightly along coastal areas and in Lanzarote, while moderate and locally significant drops are forecast elsewhere. Despite this, temperatures of around 30°C will still be widespread.

In the southeast of Gran Canaria, daytime temperatures are expected to reach 32-33°C, with isolated highs of 34°C possible. Overnight temperatures in some areas will remain particularly warm at between 24°C and 26°C.

Strong winds also forecast

Moderate north-easterly winds are expected across the islands, becoming strong on the southeast and northwest slopes of the higher islands.

AEMET has warned that locally very strong gusts cannot be ruled out, particularly during the early hours of Saturday morning.

Conditions at sea will also remain unsettled, with north or north-easterly winds of force 5 or 6, occasionally reaching force 7. Rough or very rough seas are expected, together with a northerly swell of between one and two metres.
