Taylor Moss, a British citizen, has been sentenced to three years in prison for causing a multiple-vehicle accident in September last year and subsequently fleeing the scene to catch a flight to Tenerife for his holiday. The incident left several people trapped in their vehicles injured, with Moss showing a complete disregard for their well-being as he prioritized his holiday plans.
The incident, which took place on September 17th last year, unfolded when Moss attempted to overtake a taxi while en route to Manchester Airport. His reckless manoeuvre resulted in a collision with a Toyota Yaris travelling in the opposite direction, and subsequently crashing into another vehicle on Rochdale Road, Oldham, at approximately 1:10 am.
The collision left three passengers in the Yaris trapped and seriously injured, forever altering their lives. Moss, aged 24 at the time, fled the scene with his partner but later returned to the accident to collect his suitcase from the car before rushing to catch his flight to Tenerife.
Manchester police, appalled by Moss's actions, launched an investigation, and despite his initial claims that he was not driving the car at the time of the accident and that his parents had dropped him off at the airport, evidence revealed his DNA on the airbag deployed during the crash. Further investigations established that Moss and his partner had indeed fled the scene and returned later to retrieve their luggage from the boot of the car.
As a result of these findings, Moss pleaded guilty to two charges of serious injury by dangerous driving, driving without insurance, driving without a license, failing to report an accident, and failing to remain at the scene of the accident.
In addition to his prison sentence, Moss has been disqualified from driving for four years and will be required to undergo an extended driving test upon the conclusion of his disqualification.
Constable Phil Williams, commenting on the case, expressed his disgust at Moss's actions, stating, "Leaving the scene of a collision is one thing, but coming back, collecting your bags, and going on holiday without thinking about the victims who were trapped in their vehicle is absolutely disgraceful".
