The Santiago del Teide Town Hall has announced the provisional closure of all beaches and access to the sea in rocky areas and natural pools, due to a rupture detected in a sewage pipe in the water. This breakage is a result of the recent adverse coastal phenomena that have impacted the coast of Tenerife in the last few weeks.
The Mayor of Santiago del Teide, Emilio Navarro, reported that as a precautionary measure, and to guarantee the safety of residents and holidaymakers, the council has decided to close the beaches and access to the sea over the weekend.
Water samples have been taken to carry out extensive analysis, and the council will not say when everything will reopen until they have the results back. They hope it will be in the shortest time possible, as long as the quality and safety of the water is guaranteed.
The process of repairing the fissure in the pipe has already been initiated by the Council, however, how quickly it can be done depends on the condition of the sea.
