Reports are coming in that a man has died despite being rescued from the sea on the coast of Tenerife, in an area close to Fañabé beach, in Costa Adeje in the south of the island, according to the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES).
The incident took place around 1:55pm where the various response teams were dispatched to, after receiving an alert informing that a man was in trouble at sea and needed assistance.
The occupants of a recreational boat in the area pulled the man from the water who was in cardiorespiratory arrest, so they began administering resuscitation manoeuvres.
Shortly after, rescuers on an Emergency and Rescue helicopter arrived and winched him up into the aircraft from the boat to transfer him to the helipad at the Adeje Fire Station, continuing CPR in the process.
Once on land, SUC medical personnel confirmed that the man was still in cardiorespiratory arrest, so applied advanced resuscitation techniques, but they failed to revive him, and could only confirm his death.
This is the second body recovered from waters on the southwest coast today after GEAS divers found the body presumed to be the missing bather from the natural pools in Puerto Santiago who they have been looking for since yesterday afternoon.
Multiple resources have been used in these incidents, including the municipality's Beach Rescue Service, the Guardia Civil, GEAS divers, the National Police, the Local Police, Maritime Rescue, the Tenerife Fire Brigade, SUC medical personnel, and GES helicopters, which could have been avoided if red flags and warnings not to go into the water had been observed.
