The forestry brigade (BRIFOR) of the Tenerife Cabildo have been working to extinguish a fire that broke out this morning (Friday), in an area known as Pista Lolita, in the Tenerife municipality of Los Realejos in the same area as the main forest fire of 2022.
The councilor responsible for the Natural Environment and Security for the Cabildo, Javier Rodríguez, explained that the affected area is mainly scrubland made up of fern and heather, and that it covers approximately 40,000 square metres (10 acres).
Rodríguez said that as soon as the fire began, in an area known as the Lolita track, the Cabildo sent all the necessary ground resources to the area, to which two helicopters and resources from other administrations have now been added.
He confirmed that the forestry brigades have moved to the area and have been working since 5.30 this morning but now the fire is considered to be stabilized and controlled.
The Canary Islands Government, through the General Directorate of Security and Emergencies, declared an alert situation on Tuesday for the risk of forest fires in El Hierro, La Palma, La Gomera, Tenerife and Gran Canaria due to high temperatures.
