The ports and airports across the Canary Islands are operating normally despite the major power outage that affected mainland Spain on Monday, according to a provisional assessment by the Canary Islands Government.
The only significant disruption reported within the archipelago has been the temporary failure of the regional government's information line, 012, which was fully restored by 3:30pm.
Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and to limit mobile phone usage in order to prevent network congestion. Although there were reports of issues during the afternoon, emergency operators confirmed that access to the 112 emergency number has been prioritised and remains fully operational.
The Canary Islands Government has announced that it will maintain the alert status of the Territorial Emergency Plan for Civil Protection (PLATECA) to monitor in real time any potential incidents affecting basic services across the islands.
Despite some congestion on mobile networks, the Canary Islands Emergency and Security Network (Rescan) and the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (Cecoes) have remained fully functional.
Cecoes did report some minor incidents with the national call tracking tool, but emergency operations have continued without major interruption.
Operating rooms across the archipelago are also cooperating with emergency services in other regions, forwarding alerts and requests for assistance from other parts of Spain.
The regional government has reiterated its request for the public to rely on official information sources and to use mobile phones rationally. Ensuring that networks remain uncongested is crucial for maintaining the availability of emergency services during this critical period.
